Huntington Ingalls Industries Defense and Federal Solutions Mission Technologies in Virginia Beach, VA is currently seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive management skills and in-depth software development/engineering experience in order to design, develop, test, and integrate emerging technologies and prototype solutions that deliver Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training capabilities to the U.S. Navy customer.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to the following):

  • Design, develop, and implement LVC software applications, within the Research Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) environment, in support of U.S. Navy Fleet Synthetic Training (FST).

  • Integrate software with other Department of Defense (DoD) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) systems, as well as, Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) and Commercial Off-The-Shelf hardware and software.

  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system engineering issues related to the software, hardware, network, etc. components of the experimentation test bed.

  • Proficient in the use of Linux and Windows operating systems.

  • Software development using C, C++, C# or other object-oriented programming languages, as required.

  • Software development within a classified work environment.

  • Support the complete software life cycle within an agile development environment.

  • Adherence to DoD Cyber Security policies and procedures.

  • Work closely, collaboratively, and communicate effectively with all members of the project team including government personnel and industry stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision, complete projects within compressed deadlines, and offer recommendations to the project team in order to improve the technical solution.

  • Travel to support test events, meetings, and trade shows within CONUS.

Minimum Qualifications

6 years of relevant experience with Bachelors in Computer Science or Software Engineering; 4 years of relevant experience with Masters in a related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated experience as a software engineer and project lead of software engineering projects.
  • Minimum of 4 years of demonstrated experience writing well-documented, reusable code in C, C++, C#, or other object-oriented programming languages.
  • Recent experience in software engineering using Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Must reside within commuting distance of the work location in Virginia Beach, VA. Relocation allowance is not provided for the position.
  • Must be eligible to complete a comprehensive background investigation in order to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance during the period of performance on the contract.
  • Must be willing to travel to locations within CONUS up to 20%.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Requirements

  • Demonstrated software engineering experience utilizing Joint Semi-Automated Forces (JSAF), Joint Simulation Bus (JBUS), and Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) in support of U.S. Navy FST is considered a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience in software development and testing using Advanced Training Domain (ATD) and Battle Force Tactical Training (BFTT) systems is considered a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience using High Level Architecture (HLA) and Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocols is considered a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience with network programming and implementing TCP/UDP network applications is considered a plus.

  • Demonstrated use of industry standard source control and issue tracking systems (i.e. Git, Jira, etc.) is considered a plus.

  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, writing, and interpersonal skills.

  • Innovative problem solving and debugging skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks through self-directed time management and organization.

  • Eager and proactive in learning new skills through independent research, collaboration with team members, through corporate training opportunities, and other resources.

  • Demonstrated experience working with DoD customers, projects, and processes.

  • Possess an active Secret clearance or higher within the past 5 years.

Physical Requirements

Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements Software Engineer family. Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders, tolerating confined spaces, and adapting to outdoor/indoor temperature variances may be required on an infrequent basis. Lifting and moving of material may be required on an infrequent basis.
