Position Summary

Under immediate supervision the RF Engineer 1 supports engineering team to conduct test and measurement of EME, system performance, or electromagnetic phenomena through EMC studies in laboratory and field settings. The test and measurement team supports frequency assignment, equipment certification, and spectrum reallocation activities for DoD customer. Assists with the modeling and simulation of RF links and electromagnetic interference using various engineering tools. Under immediate supervision, the RF Engineer 1 supports more senior engineers in the design, development, and testing of radio frequency (RF) and/or microwave systems, components, circuits, or products. Includes antenna design, transmitters, and receivers, and associated mechanical design (e.g., hardware integration and cooling). Supports senior technical personnel and project managers in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. Receives immediate supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Applies standard technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to assist higher-level engineers in the development of technical systems. Typically adheres to guidelines of best practices.
  • Performs basic engineering work to support design, development, planning, operation, analysis, and evaluation of measurement and test systems in both lab and field environments. Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and the development of associated technical documentation.
  • Has limited independent interaction with customers and typically provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under immediate supervision by more senior technical personnel. Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor and other personnel in the group.
  • Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. May provide recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0 -2 years experience with Bachelors degree, must be in Electrical Engineering; BSEE with technical experience in RF/microwave systems associated with Electronic Warfare, Radar, or Communications functions
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles, theories, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise
  • Basic knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software
  • Basic written, presentation, team communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of the theoretical and practical operation and performance of antennas, receivers, transmitters, filters, amplifiers and associated RF signal processing components and algorithms
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency at data analysis using software tools such as MATLAB, Python, etc.
  • Experience with measurement instruments (eg. spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, power meters, oscilloscope)
  • Eligibility for and ability to maintain a Secret Level Clearance.
  • Ability to clearly describe complex topics in preparation of technical documentation
  • Ability to obtain FAA Part 107 Pilot Certification within 45 days from start date

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with RF system-level design and testing
  • Experience with RF propagation modeling principles
  • Experience with RF link design and performance evaluation principles
  • Highly desired experience with NI LabView including API level integration
  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python, C, C++, or Java to design and build custom scripts and applications
  • Familiarity with database design and manipulation
  • Understanding of basic statistical analyses
  • Familiarity with geographic information mapping and analysis tools such as QGIS or ArcGIS

  • May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment.
