Join our technical support team, we are looking for a skilled shipboard Air Conditioning & Refrigeration (AC&R) technician to help support the U.S. Army. The selected personnel will be performing troubleshoot, maintenance, repair and installation duties in a senior technician capacity to assist engineering maintenance and systems validation on Landing Craft Utility (LCU-2000) at the Fort Eustis Army base in Newport News, VA. #LI-MJ1 *TL *MV *TE

What you will do

  • Install, retrofit and repair marine air conditioning and refrigeration systems-mainly on Military ships.
  • Perform installations, repairs, overhauls, and start-ups of marine HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, following blueprints, wiring diagrams, piping schemes or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
  • Identify, analyze, diagnose, and repairs systems and products onboard vessels
  • Perform preventative maintenance, survey, replacement, and modify as needed or requested by customer.
  • Perform service on warranty and non-warranty systems.
  • Prepare for on-site installation and repairs by examining boat layout, anticipate difficulties, gather materials and coordinate on-site work, as necessary.
  • Maintain tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
  • Document work by completing paperwork on each job and maintain files and reports.
  • Assist other engineer team members on other systems unrelated to HVAC/Refrigeration when needed.

What you must have

  • Must have AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience, or HS + 5 years related experience.
  • Must have hands-on experience with install, test, troubleshoot, repair and maintenance on shipboard HVAC/Refrigeration systems and its associated equipment.
  • Must have an EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification. 
  • Must have experience documenting maintenance and quality assurance on shipboard systems or equivalent. 
  • Must have experience training, teaching and/or mentoring coworker and customer personnel in maintenance procedures and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and/or technical manuals
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD secret level clearance and be able to maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within the first 60 days of hire and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  •  Must be able to provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty,
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Requirements

  • Formal AC&R school or course certification a plus.
  • Experience with water source heat pumps and refrigeration is a plus.
  • Candidates with hands-on maintenance experience on Landing Craft Utility (LCU-2000) or other US Army watercraft systems desired.

Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the job. A waterfront office work environment is normally encountered.
