HII Unmanned Systems (UxS) are seeking an Underwater Glider Systems Engineer.  As the Underwater Glider Systems Engineer, you will help design, build, test, and support the glider platforms and support products within the HII UxS portfolio of autonomous maritime products for defense, marine research, and commercial applications. With HII serving unmanned system customers in more than 30 countries, and now architecting an approach to multi-domain unmanned system solutions (UUVs, Gliders, USVs, etc.), the systems engineering team is at the core of the future of marine robotics, and integrating persistent and long range underwater gliders into HII's multi-domain autonomy network will be a a key enabler of future ocean sensing.  As the Glider Systems Engineer, you will drive and execute on this vision, including:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs analyses at all levels of total glider system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. 
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and develops and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Leads the creation and maintenance of a of a documented and released System Engineering process to achieve HII UxS business goals.
  • Familiar with systems that include hardware and software components developed and produced for DoD, Academic, or Commercial use.



What you will be doing...

Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.



What we are looking for...

2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a government clearance #LI-MH1 *TE *MV *EP



Bonus points for...

  • Experience with the operation or design of underwater vehicles, especially gliders
  • Experience with assembly and testing of robotics
  • Experience with hardware/software requirements definition, design, test, integration, troubleshooting 
  • Experience with Matlab 
  • Experience with platform dynamics
  • Experience with Jama Requirements Management software 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite



Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
